It’s Been A While

Some time as passed since my last blog post. Seems it was easier to post something every week back when I was complaining about winter, avoiding school work, and dreaming about getting to start working on screenplays.

Actually writing screenplays takes up a fair amount of time, and I have come to the conclusion that there just is not enough time in the day for adequate “wasting time” time and “productive time” time. Bummer.

I am of course committed to balancing these out to the best of my ability, filling my days with the following activities:

*Reading The Screenwriters Bible, which is excellent by the way, highly recommend

*With the help of the aforementioned book, I have added 7 more pages to my screenplay just with proper formatting

*Adding more I Love Lucy pins to my Pinterest

*Enjoying playing a fun screenwriting game called; is my caps lock on, or not?

*Carving my first pumpkin!

Her name is Mrs. Cat, and that’s her friend, Mr. Pumpkin

*Not enjoying the fact that winter is coming, and here in almost Canada, that means I’m going to be,  at least, slightly chilly ’til about early June

Until next time,

As some of you may know my beloved Dallas Cowboys got their rear ends handed to them by the Denver Broncos on Sunday. There were some bright moments and a few good plays but, they just could not get a leg up on the pile. It was like the running scene at the beginning of Captain America: The Winter Solider, no matter how hard and fast Sam runs he’s just not going to catch up to Steve. To be fair to my Boys and give the Broncos some credit, those dudes from Denver got some mad skills man; for real.

Earlier today I watched a video that the “Dallas Cowboys Hater Nation”, or something like that, had made basically poking fun at fan reactions during different parts of the game. My brother, who is a Cowboys fan by the way, posted it on Facebook, and it was funny; I laughed. Then at the end there were all these people being nasty, using foul language, and showing all these “anti-Cowboys” pictures. And I thought geez, Dallas Cowboys haters are mean.

The Texan would like interrupt this post to write about the Cowboys.

I just love my Boys y’all, always have. They’ve had/have some great players, Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman, Demarcus Ware, Jason Witten, and of course my main man…

Don’t worry fellas the season is young, just keep your heads on straight and ignore all those haters.

This blog post will now resume.

This of course got me thinking about haters in general. They always manage to fly out of the woodwork whenever the thing or person they don’t like does something wrong or losses. They also spend a good deal of their time and energy on something that they seem to hate with a burning passion; not that it’s bad to dislike certain things, everybody has at least one. For example, I don’t like coconuts, the new car smell, or Tom Brady; and I won’t lie, Eli Manning getting sacked is physical comedy at its finest.

Hahaha. Oh man, and that face he makes when things aren’t going his way is hysterical. Ahem, ‘cuse me…anyway.

Haters confuse me, mainly because they seem to be always talking about/writing about/making stuff about something or someone that they don’t like. Why?? I mean, I want to think about Tom Brady and the new car smell as little as possible. I think it’s waaaay more fun to devote time and energy to things/people I do like. For example, I like Bucky Barnes, cinnamon, and sunshine. Awe, happy face.

Sadly the truth is, haters are gonna hate. It’s just something they do. So while we are on the subject of haters, I thought that it would be a good time to devise a plan or state of mind for dealing with haters. After all I do hope to be a screenplay writer, and if that does happen, I’m sure that there will be people who don’t like me. Awe, sad face. I decided that my method for dealing with haters will be something like this…

**A special thank you to whoever made this and put it on Pinterest! You’re awesome!!**

Yep. I’m sure that’ll put those haters back in their place.

Until next time,

I Had A Dream (rerun)

Hey friends! I’ve been continuing to put “Cambridge” in screenplay format, and it has really helped me slim down some more wordy areas of my existing story; and its kinda fun to figure out too. This is a post I wrote back in May. It’s one of my personal favorites, so I thought I would share it again.

Y’all I am elbow deep in bachelors degree this week, so I do hope that you will pardon the brevity of this post. But first, a quick update on how my schooling is going. My topic for my capstone paper has been officially approved, and I will be focusing on the English side of things during the events of 1066; particularly Harold Godwinson and the Battle of Stanford Bridge. I look forward to writing the paper but also look forward to being finished with said paper, June 25th could not come fast enough y’all.

I was thinking of something that I could write about that would be quick but also amusing, and decided to tell y’all about this dream I had a couple of weeks ago. It involves the People’s Choice Awards, Sebastian Stan, and some brillo pads, it was pretty crazy. Well maybe not crazy, interesting?, thought provoking?, weird?….hmmm…amusing, yeah, we’ll just stick with amusing. Anywho…with out further delay…

So I was at the People’s Choice Awards and I was wearing this dress, I had seen it on an advertisement on Pinterest the day before. Then in the morning after I told my husband about the dream, I saw the dress on Pinterest again, and was like, “This is it! This is the dress!” And he was like, “Huh.” So I decided to save the picture.

I had just mustered up the courage to introduce myself to this guy, which was no small feat I assure you.

Then I look down and notice that my legs are not only unshaven, they basically looked like someone had glued a bunch of these to them.

Weird..okay yeah, maybe it was a little weird. I don’t remember anything after that, the shock of having brillo pad legs may have woken me up. By the way, I usually don’t remember my dreams, so recalling this many details is unusual. I wonder what it means…

Until next time,

Ya know its funny, last night I had another dream that featured Sebastian Stan. I was in a school type setting, and he was one my classmates. For some reason, I chose to write my assignment in German. The teacher didn’t know any German so Sebastian had to grade it. I woke up thinking well that was weird…he’s Romanian.

Questions, Questions

Well it’s still summer and I still have children in my house all day distracting me with their questions, comments, and wanting to watch Mystery Science Theater 3000; which I’ll admit is pretty awesome. But given the lack of quiet time, I figured I would check out the questions lists that I have found on Pinterest, answer a few and maybe take a little humor for a spin. **I will allow you, the reader, to determine whether said spin was successful.** Well, here we go.

1. What is the hardest thing you’ve had to deal with? Sweet potatoes. The pealing, the chopping, ugh, they are like, the hardest vegetable…for real.

2. What incredibly strong opinion/belief do you have that is completely unimportant in the grand scheme of things? That MnM’s should be eaten color order, and that order is: yellow, orange, red, green, blue, and finally brown. And don’t cross me, rules are rules.

3. What makes you different from most people? The change that I made to this picture.

4. How comfortable are you speaking in front of a large group of people? How comfortable would you be sleeping on a bed of rusty nails?

5. What is the funniest joke you know be heart? Okay so, 2 muffins were sitting in an oven. One muffin says to the other muffin, “My goodness its hot in here!” And the other muffin says, “Oh my goodness a talking muffin!” Haha and lol!

6. Would you go skydiving?

9. What comes to your mind when I say, “cabbage”? Uh….Poland?

10. What is the opposite of a koala?

11. Where’s the line between soup and cereal? What the hell? Who wrote this list?! Time to look at a different list.

12. What makes your eyes roll every time you hear/see it? The gals who seem to think that Sebastian Stan is somehow ruining their life. I mean really….

Y’all unless he emptied your bank account, and/or set your house on fire, and/or stole your cat, and/or broke your hot water heater; I really don’t see how he could possibly ruin your life.

13. What word is a lot of fun to say?

14. What are you most likely to become famous for? Turning frowns into smiles.

Hand drawing unhappy and happy smileys on blackboard

15. What are 5 facts about you?

*I go by my middle name.

*I’ve never had a broken bone.

*I hate the new car smell.

*Sophia is my favorite “Golden Girl”

*My thumb on my left hand is double jointed.

Okay so maybe that was a little more than few. Feel free to answer any or all of these yourself, it would be fun to hear or…rather read your answers! As always thank you reading! And a very special thank you to my now 30 followers! Y’all are awesome!!

Until next time,

Spring Has Sprung??

I heard through the grapevine that yesterday was the first day of spring, I would say that that is boulder-dash! Because from where I sit it doesn’t look or feel much like spring, it looks and feels very much like winter. Boo winter!! Lets take a gander at what the day after the first day of spring looks like in this neck of the woods.

Lovely is not? As you can imagine I am not terribly pleased by this lack of change in the season, allow me to walk you through the stages of my winter grief…

Step 1: Mild sadness

Step 2: Disgust

Step 3: Grumpiness

Step 4: Hostility

Step 5: Humor covered displeasure

Step 6: Ugh…

Spring? Spring? Where for art thou spring? Do make haste, the Texan is chilly…and well all of the above. For now I will leave you with my favorite bit of spring related humor. It was one of the first things I pinned on Pinterest when I started my account back in…2012 I think it was, and still gets me every time I see it.

Here Goes Nothing

I must admit that I’m not really sure what to write about, mainly because winter just hasn’t been that…”wintery” this week. Not that I’m complaining! I have, mostly, no issues with a warmer week. On Wednesday it was 57, 57!, and it felt ah-mazing outside! I opened some windows, the kids got to play outside, absolutely fabulous day! However (comma) when one has a blog entitled “Winter and the Texan” it helps to be given some material in which to work with. So I thought, and I thought, while listening to my tunes which mainly consists of Breaking Benjamin songs, my favorite two are “Failure” and “Give Me A Sign”. I couldn’t really come with anything clever or terribly humorous, so I figured I would just write what ever came to mind.

So, here goes nothing.

This week was a pretty good week, I made a 97 on that Peter the Great power point I told you about; now I only have four classes to go until graduation. Yippee!! The kids didn’t have any school last week, they got to enjoy this awesome week long winter break thing, that I didn’t get when I was in school. What’s up with that? They got a lot of extra play time and game time and TV time, big bummer was their chalk drawings got washed away almost everyday because of this chorus line of rain showers we had roll through last week. At least they didn’t mind redrawing their lovely creations…too much.

Umm. Hmm. Oh, I got to go to the DMV this morning, which was super duper fun!

No it wasn’t actually. The line was already crazy long when I got there, which was like thirty minutes after they opened, it snaked around the room in the big “J” shape. But I decided to check with the information desk first to make sure I had everything I needed. Thankfully that line wasn’t too long, although I did have to stand in front of this dude that did not smell good. Yeah..Once I got up there I found out that my husband had to be there too, because both of our names are on the papers and stuff. Which you know…its fine, and stuff..  The good news is,  I snagged some awesome deals at Kohls, so all in all not a bad morning!

Umm..lets see. I found a great recipe for gluten free banana bread on Pinterest. It was so good and super moist! Just search for “gluten free banana bread” it should be one of first ones to show up, the pin has four pictures, and is from a blog called “Gimme Delicious”. Oh! I did hear on the radio that its supposed to snow on Thursday and then drop into the 20s on Friday and Saturday. Boo.. Welp, in the meantime I’ll be enjoying a couple more days where I don’t have to put on my entire closet just go outside or have to scrape snow off of our dog’s legs when ever he comes back inside.

Well there you have it, I have just proven that just because you don’t have any ideas doesn’t mean you can’t write….something. But then again the key to writing is simply doing it, no matter what, and may even turn out better than you might expect. Excuses can pile on faster than we may realize until that’s all you can see. So what ever it is that you are working on, striving for, hoping for, keep going; because you’ll only (truly) fail if you stop.

Until next time,

The Texan

Oops, I almost forgot to add a picture of Sebastian Stan, that’s pretty much become standard for “Winter and the Texan”. Hold on here’s one, its not a new one, but it is my favorite; and pretty close to the face I made while listening to the weather forecast on the radio this morning.

Let’s Go Play in the Snow!

Hi there! I would have made this post yesterday, but one of our kiddos had to stay home sick from school.  And.. Oh why yes she is feeling better. Thank you for asking! You know that sort of thing happens to her every year, she gets sick right before Christmas and has to miss out on some of the, at school, Christmas fun. I was trying to come up with a nifty word to describe this annual fun. I thought of this one word that I see people use on posts and things they put on Pinterest that has to do with like comic book related things. And since I recently became a fan of Marvel, I see it fairly often. Well to be perfectly honest, which is something I strive for, I recently became a fan of Bucky Barnes. Anyway..the word is canon. I thought, hmm..I should look up the definition for that word. And you may be thinking, wow for a writer her vocabulary stinks. Not that I blame you, you are indeed correct. English is by far my least favorite subject, and has been since the 4th grade.

The definition for canon, by the way is, “a general law, rule, principle, or criterion by which something in judged.” And I thought, wow that sounds awfully serious and official. So I settled on “happenstance”, which is a fancy way, well maybe not fancy, but another way to say coincidence. Anywho..what was I going to write about? Oh right, playing in the snow!

On Saturday the weather was pretty good, the sun had come out earlier in the day and it wasn’t windy, thank goodness. So we figured it would be a good day to enjoy all the snow that had accumulated the backyard in the past few days. So we layered up and headed out!

Ah, a nice blanket of snow, and a rather thick blanket at that; notice how the bottom bit of the fence is almost covered up.

It took some digging to find the grass, I had yet to encounter snow coverage this thick. It’s the same height as my glove! I would have used a ruler to show exact depth, but our furniture and things that we shipped from Germany does not arrive until the 27th. I know 2 days after Christmas. Awesome, right?!

What else can I say?

On the bright side that kids got to plow through the snow on their knees, made some snow angels, and I made this awesome perfect little snow ball. He’s still sitting out on the fence, don’t expect him to melt anytime soon. That’s nice, I guess.

Since the snow wasn’t good “snowman snow”, my husband had to improvise and make something a little different. So I present to you, for your viewing pleasure, Snowba the Hutt.
